Roger Federer Vs. Sampras/McEnroe/Borg (anyone) Etc. - who wins?
Answers:
When will Federer play against Samprass?where?
Federer would win against all of these players. His return and passing shots are sufficiently strong to break Sampras and McEnroe. Borg vs. Federer would be interesting, with Borg's speed and topspin shots. However, Federer's pace and angles give him an edge.Federer truly has it all--strong serve (though not overpowering), fabulous topspin groundstrokes, excellent slice, solid volleys, the best footwork I've ever seen, and the ability to change strategies to cope with any opponent. The ONLY things mildly lacking to date is his fitness level (capitalized on by Nadal) and his willingness to be ruthless in closing out a match. For example, when Baghdatis was cramping in the fourth set of the Australian, instead of keeping his intensity and rolling through the set, Federer eased up and coasted.
All of this must be qualified by the surface. Sampras, Becker, Borg, and McEnroe all might win on grass. On clay, Federer beats these but could be beaten on a given day by any number of clay court specialists. I'll make it easy, though--if Federer played any other player in history one match on each of the four surfaces, he clearly should win at least three of four.
If Federer is on his game I would pick him against anyone else.
Anyone wins.
You might want to narrow it down. The three named win. Each of them had a much longer record of wins than does Federer. And if he had to play with their equipment, he would look a bit less impressive.
That said, he is really good.
Pronunciation of maria sharapova and Nyagan, Russia?
Roger Federer is the greatest tennis player I have ever seen. Because it is impossible to compare players from different generations in a "What if?" match, we don't know. For now, I will say Federer because he is a constant in a game where anything can happen. In tennis, how do you hit an angle shot?
Federer, especially against Sampras, Becker, Agassi. Roger may be the most complete player ever. The one match I would like to see is Federer against someone like Rod Laver, playing with their generation's technology. How would he do with less power and speed, needing to rely more on finesse and strategy?Federer would win since he has the best overall game but i figure Sampras would put up the best fight against Federer because Federer never faced anyone as intense at the net as Sampras is. But on clay Federer is the most vulnerable and probably could lose to any of the other three.
Federer could possible be the best I've ever seen. Sampras and Borg were so much better than the opponents they faced. But I haven't seen anyone dominate with such consistency as does Roger. And he's so young! If he keeps this clip up, there will be absolutely no discussion as to who's the best ever.
