The BIG Final tournament at the end of the year and tennis season is the Masters Cup (which is played in a different city each year, I think last year might have been China) which is a round robbin event for both the men's and women's side...this means that the top 8 mens players in the world play each other...so for example, Federer would play all the other 7 players, then Nadal would play all the 7 players, etc...whoever wins the most matches play each other...it's a bit of a different format...same for women's side...whoever wins for each side wins the Best #1 Player of the Year Award

The Tennis Masters Cup will count as an additional 19th tournament for the eight players who qualify.
In the RACE TO THE SONY ERICSSON WTA TOUR CHAMPIONSHIPS, which starts at the beginning of the season, with all players at zero points. Round points earned from all Tour events played are added to produce the separate weekly Singles and Doubles Team standings.
The purpose of the Race to the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Championships is to determine the eight singles players and four doubles teams that will contest the Tour's season-ending SONY ERICSSON WTA TOUR CHAMPIONSHIPS. The Tournament is an eight-player round robin singles tournament and four-team single elimination doubles tournament.
