In 1970 - 1973 the top 4 teams played a round robin format. Then it switched to one and done format in 1974.In 1970 it was hosted by UCLA. UC Santa Barbara, Long Beach State and Ball State joined the host team where UCLA defeated Long Beach State in the championship.
