What are the advantages of left hand players in volleyball?

Anybody need a sub for co-ed volleyball tournaments in the Northern Ohio Region?

There are two advantages that I can think of off hand.

1) Lefties often create difficulties for opposing blockers. If you're trying to take away your opponents angles (for hitting the ball), it's more difficult if you have to anticipate a lefty vs. more common right handed hitters.

2) Setting - Typically, a setter lines up with his/her right shoulder next to the net. This makes it more difficult for the setter to surprise the defense and hit the ball instead of setting it (the setter needs to turn and face the net first, giving away the suprise attack). Lefty setters can often pretend to be setting the ball until the last second and can hit the ball more easily because their power hand is away from the net (not next to it as is the case for righties).

Where can i find a really cute volleyball layout for myspace?

Hey I am a left hander and I play volleyball, and it is an advantage because they don't expect you to use that hand, and then it takes them by surprize! Keep with it!

Anyone have some tips??

I think its the spin on the ball....

How do you get stronger serves in volleyball?

Left handed volley players, like all lefties in all walks of life, are "sinister". It's true. Look it up.

What it takes to be in a h.s volleyball team?

As a middle blocker, I always find it harder to block lefty hitters especially when the right side hitter is left handed, they are able to turn and hit line which a right hander has a harder time doing right side.

I am trying out for varsity volleyball tommorow and.?

It's generally easier to hit a ball, in terms of timing, with the arm closest to the setter. Hence, it's easier for right-handed players to hit on the left side. Conversely, when a right-handed player hits on the right side, the ball must cross his/her chest before hitting, which makes it more difficult. Further, a right-handed player must rotate his/her right shoulder away from the net when hitting. When hitting on the left (power) side, this naturally opens up the shoulder towards the court. However, on the right (weak) side, if approaching directly at the net, pulling your right shoulder away from the net would make you face out of bounds. Left-handed hitters on the other hand, open up their left shoulder away from the net, which allows them to more easily see and hit anywhere in the court when hitting on the right side. Left handed players have an advantage when hitting on from the right side of the court.

Volleyball tryouts?

i have two ideas. on my volleyball teams, we have a left hand hitter, she has trained herself to use both hands, because our coaches always were right handers, so when they demonstrated something she saw it being done with the right hand. not easy for the other team to excpect, they dont know where her angle is. i also have a left hand setter, lefty setters put a backspin on the ball and for some reason it really helps :)

Which WOMAN national volleyball team you think is the best in the world now? Why?

You can surprise your blocker(s), and put a spin back row people dont expect. =]
