What is the best age to start using the overhand serve in volleyball, if I want to be a competitive player?
I am somewhat young and I am on leauge basically for fun , but i would like to continue with volleyball for as long as i can.

Around the time when you feel extremely comfortable with your basic underhand "granny" serve and you feel like you are ready to try something else. So basically, you would still have your underhand serve in games while working on your overhand one. Also, it makes a big differencec. The overhand as faster speeds at a more horizontal angle, forcing your opponents to bump the ball with less confidence, messing up the set, with eventually causes a bad spike. An underhand one just basically gives your opponent enough time to get under the ball and pass it for a set, then a killer spike. Learn the overhand as fast as you can.How do i improve my volleyball skills?

10-12 r good ages, so you can learn and play competively in middle school and high schoolDepends on your ability. I have coached kids that can overhand serve a volley-lite ball from as young as 7 years old. the have the form but not the strength to get a regulation ball over. work on it during practice and when you feel confident try it in a game. Don't worry too much on what others can do. Practice your strengths and work on your weaknesses.

I was in 5th grade when I learned and it made a HUGE difference when I tried out for the middle school team. Overhand serve is VERY important to the game, and usually people don't get it down until 8th grade. I say now's the time to start! it's better to start early but not too early...it's a progressive sport.focus on the fundamentals of volleyball and progress to the advance aspects of the game...have funIt doesn't really matter what age you start overhand serves. I didn't start until 7th grade and some didn't learn until 9th grade. The ones who learned later ended up being some of the best servers on our team! If you want to start overhand i recommend serving closer up to the net at first so you get the feel. Then each day take another step back until you are to the serving line. It really helped me and now I'm able to do a lot of different serves like the floater. Hope this helps you!

I think the best age to start over hand serving is around 7th or 6th grade. I started around 7th grade playing for my middle school. At first the serves wernt that good but as the year went on they gott better- It does take a while to ghet serves correct and good- but dont ghet descrigged if it takes u a while. Cuz during my 8th grade year they were relli good. and they are getting even better. So relli the best age to start is when you a strong enough and ready.More Questions & Answers...
