just like it sounds baby! have you ever put "english" on a tennis ball or a pool ball? You hit is in a certain area to make it spin.Pool - the ball gets hit near the bottom to make it spin back toward you. The side spin serve in VB makes the ball curve thru the air so it looks like one person should receive it and then it either lands in between players or goes to an entirely different player. you need to practice it! hit it on the right side (if you are right handed) and stand toward the right of the court. Do the opposite if you are left handed.

side spin, do you mean floater? The key to any floater is the toss of the ball. Make sure that you toss the ball up in the air without! any spin. Then just contact the ball 3/4 to the left or 3/4 to the right.However, if you are thinking about a side spin and making it like a top spin serve but making the ball spin side ways. I wouldn't suggest such serve. Because it is not easily controllable. Side spin serves are done by most people by turning your boby sideways and use their arm to contact the ball. Its more like a underhand serve but side ways. Using your arm like a tennis racket and hit the ball in an angle that is perpendicular to the ball.
In conclusion, I think you should consider strongly before using the side spin serve. At this age, it is not very hard to pick up a side spin served ball in indoor volleyball. But if you are playing outdoors than it might be more useful.

Tossing the ball with two hands with a spin to the left or right then hitting it on one side or another is very effective. Iv seen many teams even on the varsity (hs) level working this serve. it indeed is awsome.More Questions & Answers...
