How do you run an "X" or "slide" in indoor competitive volleyball?

Which front-row hitters are involved? Who is the ball really intended for?

What does playin short in volleyball mean?

A slide is pretty much when the middle does a lay up like approach ran anywhere behind the setter. an X can be when the middle runs a slide and the weak side come in for a 2 or 1 in front of the setter.

Do you have any tips for my volleyball try-outs?

YES a slide, lol well how we run it one my team (I'm the setter) is I set like a back 1 1/2 or 2 and shoot it back to about the opposite hitter, and the middle comes around and hits it. Or if we're doing like really good passing, then we can run it for a the opposite to come hit in the middle. Never the outside. It's intended for the middle to run and hit it in back of the setter. Hope that helps!
