Beach volleyball has been around since about the 1920s, so male beach volleyball players in 1969 probably wore whatever they wore to the beach. Swimtrunks, cut-off shorts, etc. I'm sure there were even some speedos thrown out back then...

What is the perpose of playing volleyball and how do you play it?

I think beach volleyball was more of a social thing back then rather than a sport, so I would have to say fashion was regionally based. Maybe some hippies wore nothing at all!
