Do you think volleyball shorts are too short?
Question:I was reading a letter to teh editor online today from some parent complaining about how short the girls volleyball shorts are at her son's school. She says that, if she had a daughter in the school, she wouldn't let her play volleyball because the shorts are too sexy and the school has no right using your girls as sex objects.
So, volleyball players...
Does your team waer short spandex?
If so, do you like them or would you prefer to wear something else? Do you think the reason for the shorts is to make you look sexy or for utilitarian purposes? Do you think the shorts make you look more sexy than a swimmer who actually wears fewer square inches of clothing than you?
If you don't wear the spandex, do you wish you did? Why?

I definitly think they are too short. I dont understand why soccer players and basketball players have really big long shorts, but volleyball players (females) seem to have their cheeks hanging out. I will have to think twice about letting my girls bounce around in those short shorts.Help to a new volleyball player?
I used to play volleyball last year for my school and we were spandex. I deff liked the spandex better than any other clothing that we wore. This was because they were comfortable and stayed in place and were easy to move around it. When you are playing and you have baggy shorts or shirts on it gets hard to move around and I constantly was pulling my shorts down because of the way we were bent at the knees and throwing our selves on the ground. If you think about it, and this just came to me, say you were dodging to get the ball and you had on just regular shorts what if they got pulled off as you skid across the gym floor. Too sexy? No, not unless the girls make them too sexy. There's this things called: small, medium, and large. etc. The coaches should make sure that the girls have the right sizes.Without proper equipments, how can i improve in volleyball?

Yes, I think they are too short. They are also too tight. Yes, they make it easier to move around, and wearing basketball shorts would make it harder to dive, but I don't think they're appropriate for high school. I had to wear spandex and didn't like it at all. It makes me feel very uncomfortable. I think a bigger deal is how tight they are. Some girls do it to show off when they should really be concentrating on the game. It is a part of modesty....isn't that what the schools are always talking about.."Wear modest clothing"?My overhand serve is going over anymore?
yes my team does wear spandex. i dont have any porblem with them and neither do my parents. water polo players wear super tight swim suits so whats the difference.How do i get my spikes to go down when i'm only 5'2?

No we dont wear spandex and I would never want us too, some girls make them skanky and schools already see us as skanks so why would we want to keep that going.. but then again some teams seem to move better with them, but they are too short sometimes. It could go either way.Is rotation while receiving a serve a necessary rule?
Actually, my school has been the state champions in MI for about 9 years now. We always wear spandex. Not because they make us look sexy and whatnot, but because they are very easy to move around in. None of the girls are self-concious, and yes we have a few on our team who aren't super skinny. They know its part of uniform, and they accept that, plus, we've never had a parent complain about the spandex. It's just the uniform.Why do people hate cheerleaders?
My high school team wore short spandex but not super short. They weren't the booty shorts that some teams wear, but they weren't the longest, most covering things either.I liked wearing the spandex in high school. It made me feel more professional. I guess it was more a mental issue for me.
I think the shorts are very short because it is easier to move around in them when they aren't stretching down to your knees. They come up anyway when you play so you have to constantly pull them down. I also think it's partially trying to be "in style" or trendy. Because clothing has diminished over the years, maybe the players think they have to be scantally clad on the court as well.
I think I look better in the spandex than in bikini bottoms. I don't know what everyone else would think about that though.
Now that I'm out of high school and I didn't make the college team this year, I don't wear spandex except underneath other gym shorts. I wear guys' gym shorts or swim trunks or my soccer shorts when I play volleyball now. I hardly ever play in just spandex anymore.

im a volleyball player and im ok with wearing spandex they are easy to more and they r really cofterble and that mother needs to get the point about who cares about the short volleyball shorts they are not there to be sexy they r there for one reason to play volleyball! my whole team wears spandex and i have a VERY protective dad and he knows im there to play volleyball dont to pick up guys! (well i could do that to but.)no they r just short sometimes when people roll them up

No i love spandex!To me, spandex is just more comfortable to play in and easier to move around in for the moves you make playing volleyball (sliding on the floor, jumping). I'd say ours is about average length, I don't know how to describe that to non v-ball people, but it's not dirty-short but it's not long like bike shorts either. We do have some sense of what's decent, that and coaches and parents would get on us for wearing them too short.
I'll admit some girls do wear them too short, like underwear, bathing suit bottom type short. Also some girls do probably try to wear too small of a size ('hmm, I think I can still fit in these...') It's the indecent ones like that that give the rest of us a rep. of wearing super short shorts when a lot of us are keeping it decent.

I've been lucky to end up on teams that have normal length spandex and I hated spandex at first but I got used to it. I do hate those spandex though that come up in the front in down in the back. I really think sometimes the spandex some girls wear is so short because they pull them up and roll them over and over.Wat exercises can i do to improve serving and spiking?
NO! IF YOU DONT ROLL THEMSpandex can be good or bad. You can get long or short. It is very breathable, so you don't sweat as much. It also helps mobility. They are much more practicle than the regular baggy things my team has to put up with. We actually had the back left dive for a ball, and her shorts slipped down to about her thighs. Fortunately you couldn't see that much. They shouldn't be too short because, in all honesty, this is a volleyball court, not a beach in vegas!
I believe that if a team wears spandex bottoms, they should not have a tight jersey. They shouldn't be tight anyway! You should probably just wear a tshirt if you choose to wear spandex. It evens things out a bit. You should be gettig spikes! Not guys!
the team i play on does wear short spandex.but i dont think they are too short.they are that way for ease of motion and they dont get in the way and bunch up when you dive..they are quite functional and i think that the mother is over-reacting!
