Volleyball help!?

Question:I have tried out for the team two years already, and havent made it. This is my last year, and I really want to make the team! I dont know what Im doing wrong, please help!
To make the team, you are supposed to know how to serve overhand. Im pretty sure Im serving it right, but I hardly ever make it over--only when I use a closed hand. Also, I think I have no power in the ball. How can I get the power to get it over the net? Please tell me what Im doing wrong!!

Also, is serving with a closed hand better, or open hand?

What should i wear to my schools witer ball?

First off, I know that everyone before me has already said it, but you can not serve correctly using a closed hand. The key to serving is transferring your body weight to the ball. You need to contact the ball at the same time that you are stepping into the serve. Although there are many different ways to serve you may want to try using the "bow and arrow" method where you start with your hitting arm drawn back behind your head. Hopefully this helped, good luck!

I'm thinking of taking Stanozolol for training can anyone give me anyb advice. Positives and negatives!?

you have to open your hand to over hand serve. you have to wind up your arm into a "coil". your appraoch needs to get your off the ground and your hits need to be sufficient. i suggest taking private lessons

I am looking for a volleyball camp in the leigh valley.Pa for my 12yrs old daughter?

if you use a closed hand, because of your knuckles you have less control over where the ball will land. using an open hand will allow you to "cup" the ball better and aim it where is should go. if it's a matter of not having enough power, i would highly recommend taking the ball in both hands, lifting it behind your head and throwing it down with great force. do that about 25 times daily and in a short time your power will increase.

What can i do to get in shape before volleyball tryouts next year?

Firstly, never-ever serve closed handed, it makes the serve uneven. Flat handed serves are always better. THe best serving advice I can give is to step into the ball when you hit it. Don't stand in the same spot. The power is in your arm. If it helps, think of someone you can't stand when you're serving. Hope this helps! GOOD LUCK

Volleyball team?

Put the ball in front of you as if like you're targeting somebody. Then when you got your target and you're ready, throw it upwards and hit it. I know I wasn't of much help but if you just believe in yourself and have confidence, you'll probably make it in the team. Good luck and God Bless!

Is it possible to play professional volleyball with mixed-sex teams?

Never serve with a closed fist. You'll lose all control over the direction of the ball. If you think you're a serving correctly then it's your strength that you need to work on. If your school has gym put it to good use. Go and talk to the coach and ask them to suggest excercises that you can do or possibly weight lifting that will strengethen not only your arm muscles but especially your shoulder muscles. And ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS be sure to stretch your arms and shoulders well before playing or you'll end up having shoulder surgery by the time you're done playing college ball. TRUST ME! A couple other tips, work on your vertical. The higher your vertical the more likely you're going to put the ball over the net. Put a piece of tape on a wall as high as you can reach flat footed. Then jump as I high as you can (clean approach) and place another piece of tape. Now everyday work at trying to place a piece just a little higher. (leg weights can help strengthen and there by make for higher jumps) You'll be surprised how fast you can add inches to your vertical. Also practice serving to a wall. Just serve repeatedly against a wall concentrating on on form and accuracy. Before long it'll become second nature. Practice your vertical alongside a net too, if your jumping high enough to tip a ball over then you're jumping high enough to make a good serve. Most of all, don't get discouraged. Practice makes perfect, it won't happen overnight. But keep it up and you'll begin to see the difference. And don't forget to have fun.

Nike free trainers 5.0? good or bad?

It is better serve open handed because there is a chance that you could break your fingers and you don't have any control of where the ball goes when you serve close handed. To get more power you need to get a nice high toss. Don't cross your arm in front of your body after you hit the ball. Put your left (right) arm in front of your stomach. Follow through with your arm after you hit the ball. If you don't the ball will float and drop earlier than it would if you followed through. If you want to practice, go a few feet away from a wall and hit the ball at the ground so that it bounces of the ground and hits the wall and comes back to you. Hope this helped.

Where do you play volleyball?

always use an open hand to have better control over the ball. work on your toss. it should not be too high or directly over your head. when you contact the ball, you should contact it with your hand slightly in front of your body, not above or behind it - doing either of these will cause you to lose power and possibly strain your back.

make sure you are stepping through the ball. this will give you more power. basically you'll toss up and in front of you and step with your left foot (if you're right handed) as you swing and contact the ball. make sure to step completely through and follow through with your arm. this way, you are putting more of your body weight into your swing. a way to make sure you are following through is to hit the outside of your right thigh with the side of your right hand when your arm comes around after you contact the ball.

as far as your armswing... if you dont already, try only tossing with one hand (the one you dont swing with). have your hitting arm in the air behind you and bent, ready to contact the ball. when you toss and are about to take a step, pull your hitting arm back as far as you can. take your step and swing through with your shoulder pulling your arm fast and with as much force as you have inside of you. the power comes from your shoulder, not your hand. make sure to contact the ball high enough in the air, with your arm extended (but not the WHOLE way) that it will go over the net, but again, don't contact it directly over your head.
