Where to go kayaking around Northampton/ Wellingborough?

I used to kayak when I lived the U.S., I now live in Wellingborough and would like to kayak again. Where are nice places to go? Also, do I need any license? Thanks.

Apparently they do some watersports at Stanwick Lakes, a couple of miles from Wellingborough. Otherwise there's a bit of white water stuff just outside Northampton on the Bedford Road A428 near Brackmills.

Rutland Water or perhaps Billing Aquadrome. Don't believe any kind of licence is required.
