Where is the best beach to learn to surf in Southern California?
I was thinking about going to Malibu, but I am not sure.

Where can I get a decent canoe for really cheap or free in southern maine?
Malibu is not a good place to learn because of the crowd and locals. People can get very aggro there. My recommendation would be to go to a beach break like Venice Breakwater (take Venice Blvd all the way to the beach) and practice in the white water. It's a sand bottom so less chance to get hurt and you'll be out of the more advance surfers' way. You can also do this in Santa Monica (Ocean park or bay st.). Once you can stand on the board fairly consistently go to Sunset (Sunset Blvd and PCH). The waves there are very mellow and the vibe is cool towards beginners. Its traction pad a must have on a Skimboard?
Manhattan Beach.Do you get sick from surfing in LA water?
San Onofre state beach is, by far, one of the best places to learn. I've been surfing for 12 years and I caught my first wave at San Onofre. I still surf there every summer. Not only is it a GREAT place to learn to surf, it's one of the nicest beaches in Southern CA. It's a gorgeous spot; Here, check it out:

Can i take a skimboard in the pool?
Huntington Beach! The ORIGINAL "Surf City USA"-- my husband learned while growing up there, from his dad who surfed all over California (and still has a longboard). Relatively clean and free of vagrants and a**holes (compared to Venice or Manhattan), and much easier access from any part of the LA area than San Onofre, El Capitan, etc.Victoria foamie skimboard ok for 175 pounds?
