There is no "BEST" tactic, only the tactic that best suits a given weather-pattern,water temp.,ETC. If I had to choose a year-round tactic that would always put fish on my line, I would have to say some type of "Soft-Plastic"."Berkley Gulp" worms and jigs in white, black, and "melon" colors would cover most situations. "Red Shad" colored worms in 7 inch size work very well in warm, discolored, "dirty", water. Using the new "super-lines" that are smaller in diameter but very strong will help you get more "bites". Rig your 7 inch worms "Texas-style". And, your jigs with a 1/8 or 1/4 OZ. head in the corresponding color.
A very close 2nd, would be "Rapalas" in "silver" or "gold" color. The original "Floating" Rapala works very well .Use the "gold" colored ones in "dirty","dark" water, and, the "silver" ones in "clean", "Clear", water.
If you are really interested in Bass-Fishing check out a book at the library, or buy one at a local book store. Also, you can go to your local bait shop and ask questions.
