I just moved to the Richmond VA area and am looking for a sailboat to crew on. Any ideas on where to look?

not too many opportunities in Richmond, but try down at VA Beach and that area or down in Deltaville and that area near the Rappahanock River

Where can I find water sports in and around san jose,CA?

Maybe you can check out the yacht clubs in your area. Most are quite willing to pass or post your info on their bulletin board.
Give details as to yrs of sailing, knowledge of boat equipment, types of boats you have sailed etc. I owned a 35 ft. sloop a few yrs back.

Do you need a permit to launch a speed boat in morcambe bay ?

either at local yacht clubs, or especially if you are racing crew, go to sailinganarchy.com and in the forums section there is a forum just for crew looking for boats, and boats looking for crew...otherwise my other advice would be to go to a local boat store and look at a bulletin board (west marines here have it) but id say try sailinganarchy.com first
