It's silly they are giving you a hard time for your age. You can do some of the following things. Sounds like they are jealous BECAUSE you are so young, and kicking butt!-Ignore it. Let your rowing do the speaking for you. This is the single most important thing you can do. Don't argue, just shrug it off and then row your butt off. That will speak for itself.
-Still row your butt off but if it really bothers you, make a joke- make fun of their age in a non-combative, or threatening way. Like, 'yeah isn't it cool that I'm so young and already this good!'...etc. Be light-hearted about it...like you are joking and not vain either. You don't want them to hate you altogether. But you could remind them of how much longer you have in the sport than they do. Like when they make a comment, something like, 'yeah and just think because of those few years of differences, I will still be here rowing when you've retired. Then you can watch me on the sidelines and cheer for me!'...etc.
-Again, just keep rowing and prove your ability through action not words. BUT, if it really distracts you and you don't feel respected, confront them and tell them to stop nicely but firmly. It's stupid and distracting and poor sportsmanship. Not what true, good teammates do.
-Keep rowing! Last resort. Goto your coach and tell him/her that they're being shmucks about it! Don't whine but tell him matter of fact, to the point. Tell him it's bugging the crap out of you and distracting your performance. That will get his attention. But also tell him not to call attention to you so they don't give you harder time, but to be discreet about it.
Good luck!!
Keep rowing!
Shark fins on the bottom of my boat float boat?
well i cant think right now but id' say that the youngest in the army are ussually the fittest and get to be snipers...man i like being an airsoft sniper...well young is really good because ur fit, a sniper, and stronger because u probably gunna live longer man!Keep in mind that when we feel threatened and/or jealous, we often mask our insecurity by acting superior. Do they really think you are the weakest? Consider not only the strength of your body, but also strength of your mind. Are you the weakest? An honest assessment will prep you to either bring up your game, or smile with confidence. The only person you can "make" to do anything is YOU! And undeniably, when you are the youngest, you are required to be more than what others were when they were your age. Nothing you can do about that except stay around long enough for them to go to college or something. Then you get to set the bar... for those your age!
