Kayaking, what is the best buy for a sea kayak, plastic or glass? Any brands better than others?

The answer is yes. Instead of tidal swells, waves on the great lakes are created by wind and the waves are indeed surfable.

There is a surf DVD called "Unsalted" that you can check out. The trailer can be viewed on the website: http://www.unsalted.tv

Next, you'll need to learn a little bit about lake surfing to be able to predict when there will be waves and where. Look on Amazon.com for a book called "Surfing The Great Lakes" by P.L. Strazz.

Even better, since you are in Michigan, buy that book from the Third Coast Surf Shop in New Buffalo. Their website address is http://www.thirdcoastsurfshop.com...

How long would it take a snowboarder like myself to become a descent surfer?

Not likely, since surfing requires naturally occurring waves and you don't get those on the Great Lakes.

The best you could do is wakeboarding, where you are pulled by boat and you jump the waves in its wake.

How many players are there in a water polo team?

You can get some decent waves on any of the Great Lakes if the weather is really bad. But you don't want to be out on the lakes if the weather is that bad -- for one thing, it'll probably be winter, and COLD.

What does going over the falls mean(come on all you boogie and body surfers out there)?

You can definitely surf the great lakes. Waves can be generated by wind blowing over large bodies of water. Surfable waves on the Great Lakes aren't as consistent as in California or Hawaii but they do come fairly often. You can check out a picture of someone surfing Lake Eerie at:

When kayaking, is it easy to flip back over once you've rolled upside down or does it take a lot of effort?

The distance between waves in the great lakes is very small, so it makes it more difficult, but its possible (see answer above.) Waves DO naturally occur in the great lakes...duh (again look above.)

Best water skiing around bay area (san jose)?

ive heard that occasionally some pretty good waves come in on the great lakes frim the big winter storms if u can withstand the cold
