Go to the Gold Coast!
There is a place that is even named Surfer's Paradise, the airport when I last visited that area was called Coolangata, Surfer's Paradise Airport. It is really beautiful, and the beaches are so nice and clean. Always surf where there are surfers, as Australia does have sharks, and I mean big ones. So never attempt a beach where no one else is around. If you want to go for a while, then check out weekly or monthly rentlas, then rent a car, and you can just drive up and down the coast looking for waves. I suggest the Gold Coast as the best place and area if you are new to Australia. Happy surfing!
