The largest species of fish is the whale shark which grows to the size of a large whale. The largest specimen regarded as accurately recorded was caught on November 11, 1947, near the island of Baba, not far from Karachi, Pakistan. It was 12.65 m (41.5 ft) long, weighed more than 21.5 tons (47,300 lb), and had a girth of 7 m (23 ft).
Bass are not nearly as big. They grow up to 100cm long although 80 centimetres is more typical. The world record largemouth bass was caught near Jacksonville, Georgia on June 2, 1932 by George Perry. It weighed 22 pounds 4 ounces and was caught from an oxbow lake off the Ocmulgee River called Montgomery Lake.

I think that fish grow to the size of their environment. Many things play a factor in the growth of any animal, fish included, like diet, size of habitat, etc, but I think for the most part, bass can get up to probably over 20 pounds. I've heard they are really tough to catch when they are smaller than that, but I'm not an avid fisher, lol.More Questions & Answers...
