Sorry, the answer to your question is too long to post here. Michigan is a huge state. It is divided into two parts. It was originally, as far as European immigration is concerned, a French colony. It was later settled by Easterners. They could travel there overland. During WW 2 war factories imported workers from the South, many Black Americans. Michigan has an 'Eastern' culture as opposed to Wisconsin's and Minnesota's Mid-Western type. Northern Michigan is a world apart from Southern Michigan. Search 'Michigan'.
