Is wakeboarding like snowboarding?

You want a thick lubricant so it will stay on the moving parts. A thin oil like 3 in 1 won't do this. Most tackle shops sell little tubes of "reel lube" for a buck or so. Many reel manufacturers sell the stuff, but the brand shouldn't matter. (I'm not familiar with sewing machine oil, but if it's a thick viscous oil, it should be fine.)
