Advice to someone who hasn't surfed would be to get a board that is long, and will be easy to paddle. Ask the guys at the surf shop they will help.
Buying the wrong kind of surfboard will stop your progress. It has to be suitable to your height , weight and skill level.
Before you go in the water see what the waves are doing, if you're new to surfing you wont want to get right out far, get waist deep in the water, get a feel for your board. And practise catching the broken waves. Get comfortable doing that, just riding them straight into shore. That will be fun for a little while.
Once you've learnt how to paddle and catch the waves properly you can try standing up. It takes a ton of practise so don't be discouraged.
Only surfed the web, sweetheart.
I don't but always wanted to. Are you going to go to a surf school? That might help.

Always go surfing with a friend. Go to a place that you or your friend are familiar with and be aware of the conditions. When learning to surf don't get discouraged. The most difficult thing about surfing is paddling. When paddling out to the waves, go around. It may be a long route but take the one where the waves aren't breaking. Your arms and shoulders will get tired very quickly but keep practicing, you'll get used to it. Good luck.Does anyone own a ojibway or guide old town canoe?
you need to learn whats called a hop up. If you learn it on land you will be able to do it no problem on the water. Also try to learn on a longboard, it is floatier and a lot easier to get up onWhere can I do Wakeboard close to Tucson AZ ??
yup yup... i LOVE to surf... it's sooooo fun. well... first of all you can't be scared. and you have to paddle hard... if your a beginner i suggest a longboard. or a funboard (it's kinda like a longboard. but it's not too long, not too short like a shortboard... it's the PERFECT size for a beginner) and have FUN surfing it's really super fun and it's even better when you're surfing with a friend...peace&&loveā„
