What difference do the shape of rails on a surfboard make to how the board performs?
if you are looking for a motor boat only BOSTON WHALER will doThat's generally considered small for ocean sailing. That said, there have been many sailboats, ten feet and under, that have crossed oceans. It's not neccessarily the size of the boat, but how well it's constructed, how seaworthy and seakindly it is.
Boats (sailboats) that come to mind as very strong for their size are:
Pacific Seacraft Flica (20 feet)
Cape Dory (18 feet, 22 feet, and up)
Falmouth Cutter (22 feet)
Montgomery (15 feet, 17 feet, 23 feet)
Theses are just a few that come to mind. You might go to the Cape Dory Board and pose your question there. Many of the members are very experienced with small boat handling at sea.
Good luck in your search, gain experience in different types of boats and different types of waters prior to heading offshore.

Fishing boats are great, they are like the 4x4 of the water: you can fish, drag ski, carry big equipment, and they also cut very well the water.More Questions & Answers...
