Check out this link. It gives you the offshore wave report which is almost always a good indication of what the waves will be breaking like. Here in SC, I won't even go out there unless the offshore report has 2 to 3 foot waves.

To get the swell report, just click in the water just offshore of the red dot (Newport Beach). It looks like you guys got 3-5 ft. offshore swells today (2/21/07). Get out there!
