Why do surfers run into the water but walk out?

Answers:

When did surfing become a sport?

that answer is part correct, but also, a lot of times if you run into the water you can throw down ur board, land on top of it and coast about 15 ft. without really doing any actual work. a lot of times i do that, and then if its still shallow ill start walking. sometimes, this is completely necisary, for example if there is a bad shorewamp, you need to get the hell past that quickly. also, when coming in, its kind of hard to run in through the white wash. control would be more appropriate then haste at that point. still, if i were late for something (as i often am after good sessions) i would probably be running...

They're more excited to get IN the water than OUT of the water. Kinda like walking into school in the morning but running out at the end of the day! :)
