No No No They got it all wrong! Well no they don't but the easiest fastest way to do it is to get a blow dryer and blow dry over the surfboard while you wipe off the melting wax with a spunge or a towel. I used a small thin towel and it worked like a charm.

Waxcomb or credit card. If you want to take off ALL the wax, scrape what you can of then try lime juice. Softens the wax so it just slides off. But be careful and quick as it is acidic. Wipe down with water to clean after.

Physically what impacts will the boat race have on the crews during and after the race?

I've used a wax comb, old CC card, CD covers, plastic rulers, whatever is hard plastic with a nice solid edge will work. After removing the bulk of the wax I just use papertowels and some elbow grease to remove the leftover wax film. I can get the board shiny and ready for a fresh coat this way. It's not as fast as using chemicals but it also gives you a good chance to closely inspect your board for any dings.
