Where's a good place north of boston to rent skiis? (not a mountain), but rental for a weekend, or the season?

You really SHOULD invest into a pair of skis. You can save a bundle by buying used or even new on ebay. I've had good luck at this, and buy a new pair every 3 or 4 years at about 1/3 retail.
