snowboarding holidays are never cheap. However have a look at a tour operate website like thomsons ski holidays and pick a destination you would like to go. Then check if easyjet etc fly there and then search for hotels online. In ski resorts you can always hire boards etc when you get there and buy lift passes, lesson etc. Remember you can also ski in scotland, e.g. nevis, cairngorms however it's risky this year because there has been very little snow.Where's a good skiing spot for midwesterners?
local small mountains are usually in-expensive and provide a lot of small practice hills to gear you up for the bigger mountains. I would check out your local area and see whats around before hitting the big ones to save money and hospital visits if its your first times. Also use rental equipment if your just starting out. All the stuff youll need is expensive so to find out your not digging it could be a large chunk of change wasted. If you live in the UK or anywhere else in Europe..still go to the USA or Canada because there is bugger all snow in europe at the moment, a nightmare start to the season.

If he's a beginner, see how much of the resort is rated "green" or beginner slopes. Advise him to start ouot with a beginner's lesson, too. ...finally, I hope you're going to join him. I would suggest going to Austria. It's the best place in Europe for skiing and snowboarding. There are a lot of beautiful mountain resorts like Bad Gastein, Ischgl, Kaprun, Zell am See, Solden . There are expensive hotels but also cheap ones. Try the mountain resorts' websites for more info. You can also go to Switzerland but it's more expensive than Austria.
