What is that thing that you ride to get up a mountain?
start out slow. just start olleing over small jumps. then work up as you feel comfortable. you will fall and it can hurt. Just remember to fall smart. tuck and roll. don't try to stop yourself with you hands. This will cause you to hurt you wrist or arm. if you have a problem with balance in the air remember to keep your knees bent and your body straight. Another way could be to try a simple grab like a methodWhat's your Fav. wrestling move?
I would say it's a lot more scary than it is hard. The first time I went off a jump I just hit it with some speed and flew off the top of it. I would start by just riding up to a jump and then riding over it (without getting any air). That way you can get a good feel for how much speed you need to reach the top as well as what the landing looks like. Once you got comfortable then you can work on getting some air. For a straight jump I like to hit the jump entirely flat based which makes it easier pop (ollie) off the top of the jump.
Most jumps are table tops. Which means there is a ramp (kicker) followed by a flat portion which leads into sloped landing (transition). It's kind of like a rolling hill with the top chopped off. As you start hitting bigger jumps the most important thing is guage your speed correctly to land cleanly on the transition. This is the only part of the jump where it will not hurt to land. Not enough speed and you'll deck out on the flat before the transition. Too much speed you'll just go splat on the ground after the transition. Either way missing the transitions is sketchy (and hard on your spine).
Your best bet is to find a mellow jump that doesn't require too much distance to make the transition. In fact a lot of places now make beginner jumps where the kicker leads straight into the transition. Another thing to do is to look for small or medium sized hips which don't really have a flat part either. Just stick to those and as you develop more confidence and control in leaving the ground you can start working on grabs, tweaks, and spins.
Finally if you haven't already done so, try practicing ollies on the flat snow and practice riding on the flat base of your board. Both will help give you confidence in approaching the jump as well as getting more pop.

you should NOT need classes for jumping. it's the easiest thing in the world. It wasn't really scary for me the first time. But if you are scared, don't think and just do it. The no spraining part and landing part go hand in hand. if you've ever jumped in the air, you can move certain parts of your body to make a spin or change it's direction. same on a snowboard. Just don't kick your snowboard back or forwards and keep it parallel to the ground and you're good. Another important thing to landing is to bend your knees when you hit the ground so you don't sprain anything. One more thing, if you jump off the jump, you'll clear the edge. If you don't, you'l fall forward if not enough speed is involved. No need to be hauling ***, but make sure you're going fast enough.Where can I buy a snow sledge?!?
Is it hard the 1st time on a jump? Yes. There's no way around it. Scary? It's that, too. But it's only mildly scary, and not so hard that it can't be learned quickly. And, more so than anything else, it is FUN. The first time you land big air, can be a rush. The first time you stomp a cliff drop is downright intoxicating. But that will come later. As for jumps, nothing else encapsulates the fun of snowboarding better. Not rails, not open runs, not even powder. What made most of us want to try snowboarding is seeing snowboarders hucking off of big jumps, throwing 540s with a nice grab, and landing smooth then riding away.
Terrain parks these days are geared for snowboarding more so than skiing. Rails and half-pipes on a mountain wouldn't even EXIST if not for snowboarding, and it's skate-style influence. And now you see skiiers on these features, sliding rails, riding half-pipe and wearing baggy pants, all directly influenced by snowboarding. Skiing was cool in the past, but now it's all about snowboarding.
When you first try jumping, it will more than likely be on a "table-top", referring to the flat part between the lip of the jump, and the back-side of the jump. You'll be inclined to go slow, and most inevitably go too slow. While this is understandable, just know that it isn't conducive to the intended overall feel of the jump. It's sharply inclined on the front and just as steeply declined on the back for a reason. The flat part on top isn't meant to be touched. The trajectory of your jump should allow you to clear the flat part of the jump, and land on the backside, which is sloped to match the angle of your descent back towards the snow. It's alot easier than you think, if you can force yourself to keep your weight forward and maintain enough speed.
The key to alot of jumps and jibs in snowboarding is to envision the trick in your mind first, then apply that to your riding. But, not over-thinking it is also key, as that will probably just psych you out and make it harder on yourself.
I hope this helps!
If I'm buying a snowboard online, how can i get my bindings and all the sizing done?
If you take your time and take things slow riding off a decent sized jump isnt scary.. You should start with little natural bumps and hills and just ollie over the top of them to get a feel of being in the air. Then you can take it to the next step hitting a smaller tabletop getting the feel of the takeoff and landing. Your takeoff should be knees bent and be sure NOT to speed check right before you hit the jump but do it before so after that you can point your nose downhill and get ready to ollie off the lip which will get you the proper air to make it to the landing. When you are landing you should have your knees ready to bend to absorb the landing and be sure not to stay stiff when you land but to absorb the shock by bending your knees. How Do You Adjust Ski Bindings?
It can be scary. The best way to overcome this is to start small. Get a little tiny jump, and I mean little tiny. Hit it at a slow speed, then land straight, using you knees to absorb the impact. Hit the same jump a little faster each time, then move on to bigger jumps. This way it's not really scary at all.wow multiple paragraph answers are so lame.. you will fall.. thats all there is to it... just keep trying and with success will come confidence
Wow, all these answers are really long. So mine will be a short one. Clear and simple (i hope)
Ride like how you always do, just go off the ramp STRAIGHT, otherwise don't really think about it. Because when your going off a jump, it just happens!
Don't be afraid of going a bit fast, because the slow you go, the likely you going fall, although, don't go racing off the jump. ^^
And finally, be confident in yourself. If you see yourself being successful in the jump, u'll prolly land it :D And about falling... everyone falls ^^, you just have to get up :D w/e that means lol
o yea... your soooo lucky that you have snow !! lol
Advice on xc skiing for beginners?
It's somewhat scary the first time. Just don't think about the downsides and hit the jump confidently. First, roll the jump and see what the jump and landing (if there is one) are like. If you feel comfortable, hit it. When hitting it, have a somehwat decent amount of speed. When landing, bend your knees and don't lean forward or back. Start small then go big. It's just that you need to get over the height and stuff and realize that it's going to be fun. Then don't freak out in the air, spot your landing, and ride awayWhat sort of figure skates do you recommend?
I've never been ona jump i've only been on a slopeTell me about snowboarding tricks?
It is pretty hard. For me, I went on a huge jump and was in the air for a while. I wasn't prepared for the landing and rolled around in the snow. My advice is to go off small jumps first, then tabletops, and then try new things. Don't overwhelm yourself on your first jump.More Questions & Answers...
