Snowboarding...!?

Ever since the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy, i've become a fan of snowboarding. I see how much fun these borders seem to have, and i want to try it out. The thing is that i live in New Jersey (the town that i live in is very hot in the summer and spring, fairly cool in the fall, pretty cold in the winter, and i don't think it's even on the map) and my family doesn't have a lot of money. But either way i want to try it, and i don't want to wait for my senior class trip (im a freshman) to try it. What should i do?

I am going Snowboarding soon. What are some tips, things to remember when I go to the mountain?

Well, the first thing I'd do is try and gather up some friends and head up to the nearest resort and try it out. You will be able to rent most of the gear you will need at the resort but you will have to supply your own waterproof clothing, gloves, goggles/glasses and stuff like that.

If you find you like it, and I'm sure you will, I'd look into finding any local ski/board clubs. This is usually the best way to get involved as group trips are always cheaper as the costs of transportation, tickets and rentals is spread out across the whole group, not to mention most resorts offer group rates. Inquire at any nearby ski or snowboard shops as they'll have info on any clubs or groups in your area.

Snowboarding isn't a cheap sport to get involved in, but the bulk of the cost is very front loaded.meaning once you make the initial investment in your gear you will only need to pay for tickets and transportation to feed your new habit. That being said, there are always good deals to be found on used gear. Ebay is an awesome resource and if you do get involved with a club, other club members are sure to have a line on used gear.

And I just did a quick search and found this website listing some New Jersey resorts:

That could be a good resource for you to get started with

Which is a better board for me: Burton Elite or the Burton Se7en?

Drive to the snow and go snowboarding.

When does the first snow begin to fall in Aspen each year?

if u cant afford to buy a snowboard right away i would say rent for a season and see how u like it, and try to find a place that u can buy a cheap season pass because if u go a lot then the costs will eventually cost more than the season pass. good luck!
