Bellingham, WA; Lake Tahoe, CA; or Salt Lake City, UT? Where should I move?

Actually, I suggest you don't.unless you want to play hockey. It's a bad habit to get into really. If you want to skate, better learn figure skating instead. Hockey players can skate but mostly going forward or backwards...it's tough for them to change directions in a split second or really do anything besides go front and back.when they turn, they use the full width of the court too because of the type of skates they use. Figure skates are more versatile. You can stop whenever you want and wherever you want. You can go from whatever direction because you have that toe-pick to help you change direction. Either way, unless you play hockey...I suggest stick to figure skates rather than hockey skates. Actually, I suggest you play hockey using figure skates.if you see someone coming from your side, you can stop anytime and watch them just go pass you...they can't stop with the hockey skates as easily as you could with figure skates without scraping a lot of ice. Of course, they could always knock you with their stick so you'll still get knocked down one way or the other.

Mom needs help getting 9 year old snowboarding...?

I don't think you can. I've been skating for more than ten years, and I know that figure skating and hockey are two very very very different things. Figure skating is graceful. But hockey is agressive. Figure skating is agressive too, but not really physically agressive. You don't need to have good posture for hockey, but you need good posture for figure skating. Hope this helps.

the V thing you describe is because you are pushing out one leg (your stride) and you are trying to push with the other before you bring the original leg back underneath you. getting your feet back underneath you will allow you to get maximum extension out of your stride.
