The United States Figure Skating Association has a great document on their website for just this topic. In that document they explain portions, balanced eating, and calorie requirements.
A balanced diet provides a figure skater with the proper calories to give them the energy to train while maintaining a proper weight level. Depending on your training level, you'll need to take in more or less calories than other skaters.
Hope that helped.
How hard is snowboarding to pick up, if you can skateboard?
just eat healthy and dont go binge on the sugars. sodas, chocolates, ice cream, and bread seem to be on the avoid list. most skaters like juice, meat, and veggies.dont be too harsh on urself, just eat till u feel satisfied but still have space in ur tummy. blance ur food out and keep proportions
hey!
well i try not to think of it as a diet but more healthy eating.
probably the most important thing is to drink a lot of water which can be a pain and i hate drinking water but my mum really encourages me. i don't know how old you are but if you work or go to school try to take a litre bottle of water with you. i take a litre bottle of water to school everyday and aim to drink it by the time i get home when i refill it and try to drink that before bed time. thats 2 litres a day and is really healthy especially if your ttraining a lot you get dehydrated. i also try to snack on healthy foods not junk, so instead of chocolate or sweets like my frends, i bring dried fruit (banana chips are nice) or other healthy options. i eat at least 3 pieces of fruit a day (breakfast, lunch, dinner) and vegetables too.
try not to diet though as you need a lot of energy as a figure skater. when your training bring a big bottle of water and drink lots and bring some high sugar foods (bananas etc)
a little bit of cake once in a while never does you any harm either =D
xox
Well, when I was training 8+ hours a day (ya, that was silly, I was an addict!) "Balanced" was anything I could get my hands on between sessions!
Now, as an adult skater, I recommend the Paleo diet not as a "diet", but as a way of eating. I find that the theory and results are sound.
Basically, you eat lean meats, LOTS of veggies, some fruit, seeds, and nuts. You cut out cereal grains, dairy, salt, sugar, and anything fake/processed.
The theory is that the agricultural revolution was the starting point for all the disease, obesity, etc. (Cereal grains, flours, etc having been cultivated for a "cheap" way to feed the world). It's used as a weight loss diet, as a get-healthy diet for many diseases and disorders, and as an athlete diet for many, many elite athetes.
Anyway, I found that as soon as I cut out the grains and dairy, I had SO much energy, I felt stronger, my jumps were higher and I found it easier to center spins (I have NO idea why!). Additionally, I recovered from hard workouts faster.
