Where do moguls come frm on ski hills-?

Moguls can come from a number of sources.

Sometinmes they form naturally when the snow falls due to the nature of the terrain (boulders, bushes and undulating ground.)

Sometimes they are manufactured by careful ploughing though I've never seen this in process.

The most common cause are lots of skiers and boarders turning in roughly the same points on a steep slope. This really cuts the snow up and forms the humps, these then force people around them and the displaced snow builds them up.

One thing I have noticed over the years is that many moguls I've come across have started to change shape. 15 years ago all the moguls I remember hitting were beautifully curved mounds, I've noticed over the past few years that they seem to becoming more elongated and narrower forming a low long hump. I think this is mainly caused by the change to carver skis which cut the snow differently to the old straight skis. Also boarders have to take some of the blame as they really cut the surface up and seem to scrape the snow around and they tend to cut the top off of the hump as they go over them.

Personally i hate these low long humps as they are not as much fun to ski.

Should a snowboard be completely flat against the ground when laid down?

Basically all are machine made specifically for jumping. Other times it is because of all the carving that is taking place.
