Should I start my kids (5 and 8 years old) on skiing or snowboarding first? I want them to learn both?

Snowboarding stance?

I would say skiing, and here is why: The first day out, you want your kids to have a good time. If they get a bad first impression, you could be in for fifteen years of boring vacations sitting on beaches or whatever non-skiers/boarders do on vacations. Anyne will tell you that the first day on a board you spend it on your rear end. I had big purple welts the first time. With skiing, you fall a little bit, but with separate feet you are at least standing most of the time. Secondly, when skiing, you gradually progress over many years to become an avid skier. With snowboarding, you either can snowboard or you can't. The kids will want to learn to snowboard, despite the bad first day, once they are into the whole winter sports thing. So use skiing to get them to have a good time, then, once they are parallel skiing, let them snowboard. about 18 years ago, when me and my brother were beginners, he switched to snowboarding. I waited another couple years. Now I do both expertly, and the one time he tried skiing, he broke his leg trying to keep up with me. He never mastered skiing because he couldn't appreciate the slower learning process of the sport. kids are impatient. If they have a bad first ten minutes they want to go home. If it is too much work to learn something similar to something they are already good at, they won't learn it. good luck.

I don't want to wear a skating dress.?

Skiing because its much easier to keep balnce than on a snowboared.

What do you think and why?

Snow bording, it's just me, but i think that it teachs you the basics and get's you use to the snow, it also helps you with speed too. I think it is grate that you are encoriging them to get out and do something. wish my dad was like that. lol

Sponsorship for snowboarding to participate in Asiad games?

Skiing because the ability to balance will come in handy when you teach then to snowboard later. Snowboarding I think is much harder because both feet are kinda tied together as opposed to being able to move them like when they are in skiis. Perhaps they wont even want to learn, or perhaps you could ask the kids what they want. I hate Snowboarding myself, but love skiing.

How can I chose a good pair of hiking boots?

When my son was 5 years old my husband wanted him to do snowboarding so my older son and my younger could be in the snowboarding school together. He does really well at it. Of course I was scared to death. He would get to the top of the hill and go really fast down the hill and fall on his butt at the end. Including people were cheering him as he went down the slope couldnt believe how young he was and grasped the concept so quickly.

My suggestion is how timid are you children and what are you comfortable with. I know I was in a panic watching my children. My husband's response was,"hey if they get hurt, it's ok they are kids".

Ice skating again?

Ask them witch one they want to learn first. The 2 are completly different from eachother so I think you should let them choose. But I know that snowboarding is more difficult but if you already know how to do one an instructor will probably tell them to forget what they know about the other.

How do I get my 15+ year old marker m46 twimcam bindings ready for skiing?

ok i teach snowboarding at my local mtn. and i find that people who have skiied have a harder time snowboarding because they know that if they cant snowboard they can always ski. skiing is easier but if u want them to do both have them learn snowboarding firsti see it all the time hope it helps

Name me ONE Curling player EVER!?

I suggest snowboarding because they will learn how to balance so when they go and ski, it should be rather easy.
