Is cross country skiing bad for the back?

Depends on your type of back injury. x-country skiing involves a lot of leaning forward as you step/slide your skis forward. You probably need to consult a sport injury physiotherapist, who has a lot of experience with skiing injuries, to find out before making the decision.I've met a lot of very elderly people who x-country ski and they all loved it because of the reduced strain on their joints compared to walking or running.
Good luck.
