What are the uses of ski poles?

I recently noticed how many skiers use poles...including my own dad. I even see the occasional five- or six-year-old with them! What's the point of ski poles?

In ice skating, what is a "salchez"?

Ski poles are usually used as a timing tool when linking turns. They also are good when on a flat surface for both propelling you forward and for stoping or holding on a slight incline where there is no room to turn ie. liftline. If they had no use then racers who have lots at stake would not use them. Also they can help you get leverage to get up after a fall

I want to march this winterguard/ winter guard season but I need to know Who do I send Sponsorship letters to?

I think it makes the beginners warm and fuzzy. I personally think of them as nuisance and leave them in my truck. They just get into the way.

I did use them when I was a beginner until I realized how much easier it is without them.
