What kind of skis should I buy (<$350) as a near-advanced skier who loves powder, but skis in all conditions?
I LOVE Salomon Pocket Rockets after a fresh dump (snicker) but have found they're unstable at high speeds on packed terrain. Are there any skis out there that'll let me really float & have that much fun on powder, but that I can take out on less spectacular days too?

By definition a powder ski won't be good in ALL conditions. They are wide bodied, and softer in the tip and tail to help float. The exact opposite characteristics of a good, all mountain ski, which is narrower, and has a slightly stiffer tail for power transmission.I just bought a used pair of Salomon x-screams in your price range that seem to handle the pow ok...although I have fat boys for the really deep days, and they are great on the groomers and crud and all other fun activities.
But yeah, your pocket rockets - twins, right? - will be great in powder, but not so on the grooms.

Believe it or not Blizzard makes a great ski and they are cheap. See your local ski shop. DO NOT shop at a "sports superstore" Their help is uneducated and the product is the manufactures second hand stuff they will not sell to a ski shops.Good luck, let us know what you buy :)
