How to take care of a snowboard?
I am a beginner and just bought a used snowboard. How do I know if the board needs to waxed or needs any other work? Thanks

How do i know what snowboard length i should get?
You should wax it every week of snowboarding. But if you ride on slopes with ice/hard pack you should do it more often, something like, every 3-4 days.I would suggest to do these tunes by yourself. You can learn how to do this simple actions here: http://snowboard-factory.com/tutorial/...
and it will save you lots of money.
However, it is good to take the board at the beginning of each season (or in the end) for a boarder shop and ask them to make one 'overall' tune.
Do you think my sister can win the 2010 olympics?
I try to get my board waxed every 5 or 6 days of riding and will tune my edges 2-3 times a season. A lot depends on the kind of riding that you do. Spending an hour or two hitting rails will probably be very different from all day spent in the backcountry.Ussually you can tell by the feel of the board, if you start feeling a bit of drag on the base, especially when you are going slow, it may be time for some more wax. As for your edges a quick visual inspection will tell you when it's time to tune your edges. If you see a lot of burrs, dull areas, and rust spots, especially around the nose and tail edge, then it's time to tune those edges.
The base of your snowboard is made up with something called "petex". This stuff has tiny, microscopic holes in it, that need to be filled with wax molecules.
You will want to wax it before you use it...if you are a beginner, take it to a shop, it shouldn't cost too much. You really DON'T need to wax every week. Heck, I usually only wax two or three times a year!
You can tell if it is in dire need of wax if you look at the base and it has kind of a dry, scaly appearance. Almost like dry skin in need of lotion. It will just look unhealthy. This means you went too long without waxing!
I answered a previous question on how to wax your own skis...you can read my answer by clicking on this link:

Have fun!
ps: you will also want to make sure the edges are sharp. If you run the flat part of your fingernail back and forth on the edges, a good edge will "scrape" your fingernail, leaving fingernail shavings on the edge of the board. A dull edge in need of sharpening won't scrape your fingernails...you will want a shop to sharpen those edges for you! If you live in the east where the snow is harder and icier, you will need this done frequently during the season...just perform the fingernail test to see when! If you live in the west where the snow is softer usually...you can get away with only having the edges done once per season...maybe twice, depending how often you ride.
Good snowboarding gear under $300?
run your hands over the bottom, and if it feels rough or scratched, it needs to be waxed. to prevent more scratches, get a board bag (cheap ones work fine). What brand and model of skates and blades should I buy.?
