Exercise induced asthma?

How do you prevent exercise induced asthma due to the cold environment when playing winter sports? (Besides taking medication, wearing thicker clothes and covering your nose and mouth with a scarf.)

Have you ever skied Park City (Utah)?

I have this same problem. Which sport are you talking about? I find skating in some rinks can be worse than in others. I think it has to do with the dryness of the air.

I have no magic bullet for you. In general, I try to take a puff of my inhaler at least 15 minutes prior to going on ice. That gives it enough time to start working, but also enough time for any shakes to wear off. And I warm up slowly and gently, I don't just start off sprinting. I also try to pace myself, being at least somewhat aware of my breathing as I go.

I've never heard the idea of wearing thicker clothes. I'm not sure what that'd do for constricted airways. I have heard of covering your nose and mouth with a scarf, but that isn't always possible in all sports. I'd look a complete git skating with my nose and mouth covered in a scarf, unless it was bitterly cold.
