Curling question?

WHY DO THEY PLAY WITH TEA KETTLES AND BROOMS. and also, you are not considered an athlete if you play curling and it is an embarrassment to the winter olympics

Answers:

What countries have winter skiing?

The tea kettles are 40 lbs of granite stone with handles on them.
-the brooms are used to smooth the ice down(called pebble) to make the rock glide farther.
-also used to keep the rock straighter because its natural progression is to curl.
- also used to keep debris out of the stones way so as not to alter the its path.
the athletisism required for this game depends on the level of curling that one wishes to play. At the olympic level, the players need cardio endurance, physical strength, mental endurance, and coordination. the sport takes many many years of practice, and hundreds of games to even come close to an olympic level. Try it you'll see. it's not as easy as it looks

Trip to Colorado from Boston.should I bring my board?

you know, i didn't think people who participated in curling were "athletes" until this past winter olympics... but i think it actually takes some strategy to plan what they hit. as far as the tea kettles go... well they are stones and the brooms are to smooth the ice so the stone will roll better.

Which snowboard brand is better? RIDE or PALMER?

I watched the Olympics and saw the work that went into playing. All I could say is I surely could not do any better to say the least, I would be the embarrassment! Its a beautiful game although I'm not an avid fan but I am aware of work that must go into such an event. No I would never say that its not worth calling it a sport. It is and it will continue to flourish in the Olympics as long as people continue to play it! I hope, I sure do like watching it when the Olympics are on.

Why is Turin natural a good place to hold the winter olympics?

If chess players are athletes then curlers are athletes too.

Where can I go cross country ski in the Vancouver, BC area for free?

The "tea kettles" are actually stones, normally made of granite. They weigh about 40 pounds, and it is far from simple to move them around on ice. You need a great deal of physical coordination and flexibility to make an effective shot.

The sweepers use brooms, and have to press down hard enough and fast enough to melt the ice in the path. During a throw they have to do this while staying close enough to the stone that the ice doesn't refreeze, but far enough away not to touch the stone. Try waxing a car while it's moving at about 5 miles an hour.

It also demands real strategy. Each shot has its own strategy and planning, not unlike a football coach's preparation.

I wouldn't say that curlers have the same fitness as speed skaters or biathletes, but the game will wear you out if you don't have good endurance. If you don't have decent strength and flexibility, you won't be able to play at all.

Where can I find a large selection of Airwalk or vision shoes?

You're a disgruntled bobsledder!

When was the first time someone used a snowboard and what country or if in usa what state.?

It's always the ignorant and stupid who speak first and speak loudest.

Curling requires more athleticism than golf, but I don't hear you knocking that game. The skill it takes to throw a rock one hundred feet and have it stop within an inch of where you want takes more skill than the best curveball. And curling requires more endurance than football (the helmet and pads game).
