When I fall on ice I sometimes get big painful swollen bruises... ouch... nothing works... help?
when I fall on ice I get big bruises and my knee was swollen for a week before I could use it properly again. what could I use for my swollen bumps and bruises? it's really nasty cause I need to skate frequently! gels like ben-gay don't work. i tried ice, but it works slow and i have to keep it on for hours!

Ice is the best for the bruises and time of course, it will take an average of three weeks for a good purple bruise on the hip from a missed spin to go away. It's perfectly normal of not being able to sleep on the side for the first week...
Try arnica water and witch hazel lotion, they can work wonders and they soothe the pain a bit...
A very important thing is to correct your technique, why did you fall, were you disctracted or maybe you didn't prepare the jump/spin... even just straight skating and tripping can result in a nasty fall (I had a patello-femoral injury which ended my skating)
Now, keep skating, have patience and show em' proudly your "war wounds"
