You really need to talk to your mom, it's not going to do you any good to go behind her back.you have to understand that your mom will be seeing things differently to you... figure skating isn't as clean cut as it looks, it takes lots of time, money and effort...
it's also a dangerous sport at times, i've been skating for 18 years now and i was lucky that my parents gave me the support i needed.
your studies are likely to suffer, as well as the amount of bumps and bruises your going to get, your mom is going to have lots of worries, your going to have to sit her down and have an adult conversation with her, weigh up the pros and cons and take her views on board. then give her yours...
Your NEVER too old to learn or compete, so as previously stated... you havn't "missed the boat" i'm 23 and still competing and will be for years to come...
if you want to talk further about this, or need some other advice, feel free to IM me or Mail me, i will aid you all i can, even if it's info on jumps and techniques for you to try out on your own/in your own time...
take care, i hope you get what you want

How are ski slopes categorized?
Yes you should, when your in the olympics she will regret not letting you go. Just tell her that you have a study thing or that you need to go to the library, just say something. Maybe you should ask your dad?I am 4 foot 11 inches and i want to know how long of skis i should buy?
It's really hard to answer this without knowing what your mother's specific objections are. Is it a money thing? A safety thing? A religious thing? Is she worried that it will take away from your studies? I think you need to address her specific concerns with it.Honestly, at 14.. you've missed the boat on high level competing (regular stream nationals, worlds, olympics, etc). You'd be looking at recreational competitions - is that worth going behind your mom's back like that?
One thing for you to keep in mind is that there is an adult stream of competitions, and you'd be elegible for that in about 7 years. It starts at very beginner levels, and goes very high - there were some levels with triples at the Adult Nationals competition in Chicago last week. There are also international competitions for adults, usually in Europe. Skating no longer has to be something you only do at a young age - one lady did freeskate at 81 years old!
So, if you're not able to convince your mom based on her objections - which may be perfectly legit - just know that you'll soon be off on your own and able to take up whatever you want to. Many, many people don't start skating till college, their 20s... or even later in life!
What are some good ideas for fundrasing?
You shouldn't go behind her back, if you do, she'll probably never trust you again. Have a discussion with her without yelling or crying and ask her NICELY why she won't let you. If she says no flat out, ask why. If she finally gets really mad at you just calmly walk away. If she doesn't end up telling you why, don't pester her, give her hints like your bank statement "accidentally" laying around with the information about ice skating conveniently under it. Or something like bringing a conversation up at dinner about how much fun it would be to actually use those ice skates you have. Use you imagination. Hope you get to ice skate, good luck.p.s. euro_4ever I started ice skating when i was 13, and I'm now teaching others while learning from my coach at freestyle 4. I have a ways to go, but 1 year for 4 freestyles plus gamma, delta, alpha, beta etc...
What is a good place to go skiing?
I think you should if you know her reason for not letting you figure skate and think it's a bad reason. If you really love figure skating it's worth it, even if you are starting to late to go to the Olympics. A tip: in the beginning it's pretty slow. You have to learn all the basics first. If you're having trouble learning the basics or are thinking of giving up, don't give up because once you get to higher levels it's great. As long as you still have fun just skating normally don't give up.Figure skating laces too long?
Did your mom buy you those skates or did you? Just sit with your mom and ask her why she wil not let you.just ask her why she won't let you skate. Is it a money problem or something reminds her of skating. Ask her first and know the reason.
Does anyone know where to buy skating dresses?

Snowboarding versus Skateboarding??
If you want to skate you should do it but its not a good idea to go behind your mums back. Talk to her and sort out why she doesn't want you to do it.I've been skating for ten years but when i started out my parents had problems with how much time i ended up spending on the ice, it is a time consuming and expensive hobby if you want to do it properly. They thought my schoolwork would slack as a result, so we argued and then talked about it and straight A's later, I'm still skating.
Go for it if it's what you want, but talk to your mum first because she will find out, it's hard to hide a broken ankle or arm and if you're determined you'll probably end up with some of those down the line
Good luck
to be honest at 14 its a little too late to start with the competing, you need to start at a young age to get really in to it, i started at 6 and competed til i was 16 then college and work commitment stop me!! i have recently started again but there are so many fantastic younger skaters that are so promising now you would have to work so hard for it and your school work may suffer!!
I wouldn't go behind your mom's back doing it, but you should sit down and talk to her and give her reason why you would like to be able to skate. At 14 you probably won't be the next Olympic champion or anything big, but it is a sport that you can enjoy, and have a lot of fun with. I know how you feel about wanting to skate so badly, because after my injury (which wasn't skating related) my mom is afraid to let me skate because she doesn't want me to hurt myself and possibly risk getting the Chronic Pain Syndrome that I have to come back which is in remission, and can come out of remission with a simple fall. I would try to talk to her about it and let her know how you feel, and see why she doesn't want to you to skate. Good luck!
What jetting and clutch weights should I use for snowmobile riding at Centenial, WY?
No you should not. there is no way you can save enough money for this sport. I have been in this sport for a long time and I know that every bit of money my parents make goes into this, and they have very well-paid jobs (Im not going to get into that subject). Productive lessons from coaches are an average of $50 half an hour, $400 for skating time a month, $200-$1000 for quality skates and blades, $100-$700 for a competition dress, competition entry fees, traveling fees, testing fees, club membership fees, and etc... Do not be fooled by Ice Princess. There is no way you can practice without a coach. There is no way you can make it after skating for one month or so. Sorry, but 14 is a pretty late age to start. I started when I was 3, like many of my competitors. But try talking to your mom. Maybe, she can let you do skating for fun. You can do group performances and shows at your local rink or club. How do you know whether you are standard or goofy in snowboarding?
TALK TO YOUR MOM ABOUT YOUR DREAMS. IF YOU LIKE ICE SKATING DO IT. BUT I MUST WARN YOU, ITS GONNA PAY A PRICE. U WON'T HAVE TIME TO DO ANYTHING. AND I MEAN ANYTHING. IF YOUR SERIOUS ABOUT BEING AN ICE SKATER THEN GO FOR IT BECUZ IT TAKES HARD WORK, ALL YOUR FREE TIME ON THE ICE AND WAKING UP EARLY. PLUS ICE SKATING IS NOT CHEAP. IT COST LIKE ALOT OF MONEY TO SPEND. IF YOU WANT A COACH IT WILL COST LIKE $200-$500 DEPENDING ON THEIR PRICE. NOT ONLY THAT YOU HAVE TO BE REALLY SERIOUS ABOUT THIS. COACHES WON'T LIKE A STUDENT WHO IS LAZY AND THEY WILL WORK YOU TILL YOU GET HURT.SORRY IF IM IN CAPS.
anyway i did skating for 7 years of my life. i started at 3 years old stop then 7 years old. im 15 now and i quit ice skating. it used to be my dream too, becuz i wanted to go to the Olympics. but that dream was too far away and i could do all the jumps and spins and perform. but it comes with a price. I had to wake up at 4 o' clock in the morning get to the ice by 5:30 a.m. and still go to school. it wasn't easy, but this was my dream. i went to camp and it was scary. i lost it. i broke down and cried on the ice. luckyly i wasn't kicked off the ice, but i still skated. i took ballet for flexiblilty , jump class for jumps, gym to lose weight, and ice skated till i bruise. i don't mean to scare you or anything, but this is how it is. I could tell you all the fun stuff that i had when ice skating and i loved it but i was 7 to 8 years old. 10 years old started being serious through 12 years old. i asprain both my ankles and couldn't skated for a month. i rip my face off the ice and my knees and i still skated. It takes guts to do all the jumps like axles, doubles and triples. but this will happen:
falling on your butt
asprain ankles
excersising everyday
watching wat you eat
making sure you don't get fat
making all ur jumps perfectly clean landing
getting scream at
crying for doing your best
and sticking with all the crictism from your competitors.
not only that but getting yelled at from your coach.
everytime you don't do something right you get disappointment from your coach.
you have to deal with all the drama on the ice.
but in the end its worth it becuz knowing that you have accomplished this makes you a real figure skater. a true athlete
and i am an athlete becuz i do ice skating, basketball, soccer, volleyball, and i think gymnastics. but its hard. and im used to it. if im challenged i will compete till i win.
