What are the "unwritten rules" for skating in the middle of an ice rink?

Does anyone know where i can get a Burton Snowboarding decal/sticker for my car?

During public/general sessions, the middle is usually reserved for skaters taking lessons, skating backwards, or doing small spins and jumps. Not every rink handles it this way, but every one in my area does that. The skater taking a lesson always has "right of way" in the middle over all other skaters.

Skaters should not cut through the middle or zigzag around the cones, especially if someone's already skating in the center.

On the public sessions, figure skaters should not do back spirals, camels, flying spins, double jumps, or jumps against the flow of traffic. (Such as a lutz) Freestyle/patch sessions are the appropriate time/place for these elements.

Unfortunately, many parents mistakenly think the center is a "safe zone" for their toddlers. This is NOT correct - a person skating backwards properly in the middle may not see a tot. In addition, young children are fascinated by figure skating spins - they move closer and closer, putting themselves in danger of being hit by the skater's blade.

Well, you're not supposed to skate throught he middle when you're still at basic levels. that is a huge problem and you will so get on advanced skater's nerves, which is obviously bad to you. Also, the middle is olny to be used for when you are skating through for stroking patterns, footworks, jump entries (mainly flip and lutz) programs. Of course, the main use of the middle is for spins, and sometimes crozzovers around the circle, but I recommend using the red circles on the ends of the rink. On freestyles, many advanced skaters like to jump in the middle, in between the red and blue line.

It varies a little bit from rink to rink, but generally you practice your footwork, spins, and sometimes jumps, but when using the middle you need to watch out for other skaters. If you are skating at a public session usually that is the best place to practice everything and get out of the way of other public skaters who don't know what they are doing (usually they will be skating in a counter clockwise or clockwise around the rink)
