Rotator cuff injury?

I looked at previous rotator cuff injury Q&As here on Yahoo and found no help.I took a very hard/fast fall while skiing (about 2 months ago) onto my right shoulder, just where your palm would be if you crossed your chest with your left arm and placed it onto your right shoulder. I didn't hit a tree, person or other object, just the groomed snow, hard and fast. The shoulder still hurts like hell but only in specific ranges of motion, like tucking in a shirt on the right side, threading a belt, or reaching into either right pocket. Is this a "cuff" injury? Is it the same injury baseball pitchers deal with? I know a good sports medicine ortho doctor but I would like input from anyone who's been down the path already. Thanks!

Will Rome Bindings Work on Arbor Boards?

I'm a retired nurse. I've seen people with rotator cuff injury. Usually, they can't hold the affected arm out straight from the shoulder and hold it there. Generally, that's painful for anyone with a rotator cuff injury. To me what you describe isn't conclusive. Try holding your arm out straight from the shoulder and if it hurts, I'd give it a definite yes. If not, it's probably some other injury.

No doubt you need to see the doctor if you're still in pain two months later. Good luck.

Is usfsa better or is isi?

I had a bike wreck in 1997 and crashed my left shoulder into a concrete wall in the exact spot you outlined in your question but on my left side where the deltoid muscle is. It hurt so bad that I couldn't lift a shirt over my head for 9 months. I didn't go to the doctor for financial reasons and to this day, I can't do certain things and it "slips" and hurts again. You will need to have surgery as I will do shortly (better late than never). It will never heal 100% on its own. The rehab period is 6 months! I know what you mean about certain motion. I was trying to get my radiator cap off and thought I was going to die. This happened last fall, almost 10 years later. Certain things I do causes it to "slip" like putting my left hand on the wall while I urinate for example. They will do a MRI and take x-rays and then do surgery and then rehab. I hope you have good insurance. But yes, this is similar to what pitchers go thru only they tear theirs through motion usually.

What american in their right mind would watch or even play curling?

I have had rotator cuff surgery on both arms in the past few years. Both of which were caused by a slip and fall. I had trouble with trying to rotate my arms in a complete circle . Down and to the side were no problem, but couldn't go overhead. A simple MRI will reveal the tear if it is there. The surgery isn't that bad, just a few weeks of rehab afterwards, and you will be as good as new.

Physical therapy would help some. I tore my left shoulder, "punching" a rafter tail with a nail gun- never hit the rafter and almost fell off the ladder. If there is a tear the pt helps to strengthen the scar tissue to help it retain sutures. Don't wait too long to get prof help!
