I want to learn how to snowboard, how can I start?

I am 17 years old, is age a factor, am I too old now?

Answers:

Is it really?

you're never too old to learn to board. a lot of people learn to board around your age. you can start by renting a board from either the resort you're going to or a sports shop such as buckmans or pinnacle. then get a private lesson (they usually come in one or two hour lessons, i suggest the two just so you have enough practice before you venture out on your own.) the instructor will teach you the basics and make sure that you are doing it the proper way.

have fun, and remember not to give up. it may seem hard at first but by day 2 or 3 i garuntee you that you'll be having the best time of your life!

Why does a snowboard have to be one of the big ones to use it at a hill with a lift?

you're not too old to start, my dad didn't start till he was 40! you might be too old to get extremely good though, so don't be planning to do 900s or anything like that. a good way to start is buy a learn to snowboard package that includes a lesson, a lift ticket, and a board rental for the day. that way you can see if you're really into it, and if you're not you're not stuck with a board and season pass you're not gonna use.

enjoy, its the best thing on earth

Who won the 2001 Brier?

At 17 you are no way too old to start age isent really a factor as such. Its just that in snowboarding you will have to take falls, its part of the learning process and part of progression. So if you are too old to take the falls its time to do something else thats less likely to potentially cause an injury. The best way to start is too book some lessons, its easy to pick up the basics and once you have learnt them you will be ok to go out and practice on your own. I would definately not advise you to buy/hire a board out and just have a go, you really need to book some lessons and have some proper tuition. Good luck with the riding

Skiing or Snowboarding?

dude, no. you're not too late. 17 is actually a good age to start snowboarding. i started at the age 11. I'm in a snowboard team. sometimes when our team is deficit in instructors team members have to give lessons to people who want to learn how to snowboard. one day i was giving a lesson to a guy at the age of 30 something. he was trying really hard to be good. first day he couldn't even stand up but after like what couple of days he was riding it pretty good. i didn't see him again so i dint know if hes like a god at snowboarding right now but, my point is that, you are still young and you should go for snowboarding. DEFINITELY!! haha, so get on that board and rock it =]
