Tips for lutz?
I'm working on a single lutz, but can't get it fully rotated. I end up doing a half lutz. I can do the other single jumps (toe loop, salchow, loop, flip), but the lutz is making me crazy. Any tips on how to get the rotation? Any tips on the lutz at all would be great. Thanks!

Curling, the sport, lovers and haters please answer!?
The lutz is a hard one, some people even have trouble with it after they have landed it.When you go into the lutz, make sure you have lots of speed and bend your knee. Make sure you are on the right edge, or else you might be doing a flutz, which is a big no-no. When you tap into it, tap hard and spring into the air. Use your arms to help your rotation and bring your knees as close together as possible. Bring your arms close together too.
Try doing the lutz when you are practicing off ice. (all jumps can be done off ice)
My last tip is PRACTICE!
Good Luck!
Make sure that when you are going into the jump on the ice that you have enough speed, and that your knee is bent far enough. It also help to practice it off of the ice. Keep practicing and it will come. Good luck!
Should I get anon or spy snowboard goggles?
I think winding your arms more around will help a lot also make sure to keep your arms in and bend your leg. To help train your muscles practice off the ice. And make sure its on the correct edge so its not a flutz! I think the only way your doing a half lutz is not jumping high enough so bending your knee is important and keeping your not landing foot up in rotation.I'm sure you can spin once around in the air (even non-skaters can) & even though the lutz is a hard jump just keep trying. I've been running through what you may be doing on the ground right now lol and I really think you just need to jump a little higher and make sure you don't stop the rotation too quickly.
How do you figure out what type of ski to buy?
all you need to do is have more power, but don't stick your toepick too much into the ice.The Lutz is tough because of the outside edge takeoff and the counter-rotation of the jump. Timing is really important, so that effort isn't wasted.
I agree about the clean takeoff from the outside edge, but make sure the picking toe doesn't "hammer" the ice from a foot above. It looks sloppy, can cause injury, and it really doesn't get you any height on the jump. Instead, hold the picking foot behind you, a few inches above the ice, toerake pointed down. Now, bend your skating knee, deepen the outside edge, and check your arms more to the free side. When you pick in, draw both feet together and *jump* straight up off the bent knee. That should give you the height you need for the jump. More height = more time to rotate.
After takeoff, immediately bring both arms in tightly to mid-chest. Stand up straight and lift your free knee to the front - an in-air backspin position.
Best tip? Stand up straight before, during, and after the jump. Most lutzes (and flips/loops) are undone by bending at the waist - you really have to think about straightening your spine so your weight transfers from one side to the other.
Hope this helps.
What is the longest skiing run in the US?
1. Hold the edge before the jump2. As you place your toe pick in to the ice try to be on it for as little time as possible. Focus on the jump and putting as little weight on the toe pick as possible [be light on your toe]
3. As you jump pull your arms in for help with rotation.
Also keep your body up [stand tall] and try to push to get height.
hope this helps
Lutz jumps are often tricky. Here are a few tips:
Make sure your body is level when you're jumping. If you're tilted, it won't be good.
Make sure when you jump you're on the outside edge, or else you'll Flutz it. That will cause it to be cheated too.
An exercise i've found helpful is the Lutz Tap. What you do is go into the lutz like normal. however, when you jump, don't rotate. Just jump up really high and like in the rotation position, except not as tight. When you land, you should be stand ding on your right foot, and your left foot can be on the ice in front (or it could be in the front, bent, in the air)
Lutz is like the flip, except it's outside edge, not inside. See what helps your flip. That can help your lutz.
Check the way you're entering you Lutz. I personally like to go into it (when I'm backwards) with both feet on the ice, left foot crossed in front. At the last minuute, I lift my right leg to tap. Some people like to glide back only on their left foot. Some people glide on their right foot, cross with left foot and then tap. See what works for you.
I want to learn how to ice skate! Any pointers?
Well, try practicing your rotation off ice first. If you can do a single Axel on ice, Lutz should be fine. The difficult take of position makes it harder so try giving yourself more speed and really drive into it, with single you don't even really need a tight position just make sure you have good height off the ground. You can practice jumping off ice too. All in all just approach it with confidence and keep trying. How to get rid of achy muscles from snowboarding?
Do you remember how it felt to learn a single flip? It was a total different feeling from half flip right? You'll feel that with a full single lutz too when you land it! It sounds like a problem with the "timing" of your jump. Speed, not breaking at the waist at all, reaching far back with your pick foot (and bending that other knee deeply) will all help. But remember not to jump from that toe pick in the ice . . . you should VAULT from it as you bring your other leg in towards it and LIFT. If you try to jump from that toe pick you won't get very high .. . you're literally killing all that speed you built up to go into the jump . . . and that's when that half lutz thing will happen. Here's a tip people will bag on me for here . . . think of it as doing a flip with a different entrance!! Don't worry "initially" about the outside edge that you really need to be doing . . . just think "flip" at first - til you get the idea of how to get the timing for that full rotation. Once you get it, don't get too comfortable - because THEN you really need to work on making sure you are on that outside edge for a REAL lutz.
GOOD LUCK!
