Were is the best ski resort in france?
were is the best ski resort in france
Answers:
If you're after scenery, Chamonix
If you want a bit of panache, Megeve or Courchevel 1850
If you want diverse skiing, Courchevel 1850 or Tignes
If you want never-ending miles of properly linked pistes, Courchevel 1850 (probably the best connected big resort in the Trois Vallee - possibly Mottaret is better but not such a well-developed resort)
If you want virtually year round access (not presence, as the other French glaciers close for longer) to snow, Tignes or Les Deux Alpes
If you want to never speak French, Meribel or Val d'Isere
If you want to speak French in a big resort, Les Arcs 1800, Les Menuires, Alpe d'Huez
If you want to avoid crowds, La Clusaz/Le Grand Bornand
If you want apres, go to Austria
Overall I'd have to say the best ski resort in France is Courchevel 1850 - that's why it's so damn expensive.
Footnote: I've seen mention of the PdS below my answer. It isn't a resort. It's a liberally disjointed and low ski area which does indeed lay claim (just!) to having the highest total mileage. Avoriaz (which has been heavily marketed to boarders) is the only decent resort in the whole place, unless you are just going for a midseason weekend, 'cos the PdS while low, is very near Geneva...
