Why is curling a sport?

You can hit 45MPH on most runs as an average to expert skier. Perfect conditions, no crowds, etc you can of course do more but most skiers do not have the training to maintain control at higher speeds.

Well, if you assume that on the ski courses that they'll be using in Turin next week, they can get up to about 80 / 90kph, then on an intermediate course you're looking at bout 50 / 60 kph or thereabouts
