Does anybody know why speed skiing was never made an Olympic Sport?
I can remeber this being in either the 1992 or 94 Winter Olympics, but it was probaly a demonstration sport.

It's not very popular to begin with. Also, it requires a very long and straight hill that has no bumps in it. I would think that some venues would not allow for this. Unfortunately many sports go unrecognized in the Olympics. The Olympics is already overcrowded with events. I seem to recall that the high speeds make it very dangerous and years ago I read about some deaths occurring. Wouldn't make good prime time viewing for the networks.Do you find you are good at boarding or blading but not both?

Speed skiing has always been an obscure branch of the sport. I haven't ever actually tried it, but I have heard that it demands very little skill or fitness. It is also extremely dangerous, and since the downhill event is similar, it is not very popular.There's really not much skill in speed skiing. Downhill requires much more skill in keeping your speed through slight turns, and turning in a tuck etc.
