short program and long program difference as they sound, one is shorter than the other. Short program has more restrictions. For examples, ladies will need to complete 8 requirement in 2 minutes and 40 seconds (+-10 seconds or so without time violation) they are 3 jumps (one foot-work into triple, one double or triple axel, and one jump combination), 2 step sequence, 2 spins and spiral sequence (this is requirement for woman only). Long program also call free skate which allow skaters to show off their techniques but it is not "free". Still skaters has many restrictions. They are allowed up for 7 triples, only 3 of them can be in combination, only one of the conbination can be in 3 jumps combination, and they need to do spins, footwork sequences (and woman need to do spiral sequence too). These will apply to ISU events. You can visit www.isu.org for more information on pairs and ice-dancing. I think ice-dancing has the most restriction expecially their "free-dance" I think it is definately not "free". If you are watching non-ISU event (examples like ISI...), then there won't be restrictions like above. How do i wire heat warmers for a 2001 skidoo summit 800 snowmobile?
The short program is shorter than the long or freestyle program and different elements and requirements are required. International Skating Union (ISU) and US Figure skating are two good places to look for more info (www.isu.org, and www.usfsa.org)More Questions & Answers...
