What type/size of snow skis would be best for a 6'1 215lb adult male with a begining, intermidate skill level
Answers:
Snowboarders getting excited yet? What mountains are you hitting this year?
i would recommend checking in with a rental shop when you get to the mountain, with the new parabolic ski technology and even a "smart ski" (see link below)try out some demo's before and if you decide to buy, if you a "couple times a season" skier i wouldnt buy at all, and always rent. that way you get to ski on new tech every time.the binding is the most important aspect of skiing levels...don't lie about your height weight or ability level here!
the only question you need to ask your self is, "how fast do i want to go!"
Does anyone know where to get an affordable snowboard that is reliable?
Rossignol make really good skis for the beginner/intermediate level I'm really not sure about the size espcially since they are often listed in the metric system instead of pounds and inches, they use centimeters and kilograms. But go to Rossignol.com and check it out. What's with all the panties in figure skating?
I would go to a shop and have them help you. However, if thats not an option or if you are buying online I would suggest anywhere from 171cm-185cm. It depends on the ski and how long you plan on having them and what you use them for. I am 6'1 and 190lbs and have three pairs of skis. One for fast powder and crud 198cm(don't get skis this long they're only used for going fast without turning). One for deep powder and trees 188cm and one for park and pipe 178cm. I use all three and each has their benefits. If you are looking to become an advanced skier and ski in the west (aka powder and crud) then I would suggest the Volkl Mantra. Its stiff enough for us larger guys and floats in powder but still rips the groomers. If you live back east and only ski ice then I'm not much help on a specific ski. If you don't ski much powder I would get a 180cm ski with about 80mm underfoot width. Good LuckIs there an outdoor ice skating rink in Manchester or in the North West?
